Description

Lubawska Tower is one of two well-preserved Gothic towers bramnych in the city.

The most important element of the defense system of the city was just Lubawska Tower. Originally, she had a twin tower was between them was a double gate. Unfortunately, the southern tower was demolished. On the south wall Lubawska Towers, on the first floor, there is a hole (now walled up) after the entrance to the old walls. On the walls of the north and south you can see traces of the old city walls. From the gate, they flipped over a double moat bridge was completed two round towers with drawbridge between them.

Accommodation in Nowe Miasto Lubawskie and closest vicinity

Nowe Miasto Lubawskie is a charming town located on the hills of the Lubawski Garb, with a characteristic appearance of the Chełmno land. A special value is presented by the gothic, richly equipped basilica pw. St. Thomas. We will see here a breathtaking late baroque main altar, a gothic brass gravestone of the mayor of Bratian Kunon von Liebenstein, as well as a Renaissance tombstone of the governor of Chełmno, Mikołaj Działyński. The treasury of the church is also a unique funerary banner of the governor of Chełmno, Paweł Jan Działyński. In the basilica there is also a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which was here after the fire of the church in Łąkach Bratiańskich. Fragments of walls and two city gates - the Lubawska Gate and the Kurzętnicka Gate - have survived from the medieval fortifications. The building of the former Evangelical church has been preserved on the market, where cinema functioned for many years. The city draws attention to several historic tenements, old houses from the nineteenth century and the building of the former granary.

Kurzętnik

Kurzętnik is a charming town located in the valley of the Drwęca River. On the hill above the buildings rise the ruins of the former Gothic castle of the Chełmno Chapter. From the top of the so-called Zamkowa Mountain offers a beautiful view of the winding river and the surrounding hills. Kurztnik gives the impression of a suburban town due to significant differences in altitude above sea level. Right next to the ruins of the castle there is the astronomical observatory Astrobaza, which is under the patronage of the well-known singer and celebrity Dorota "Doda" Rabczewska. It is worth taking a walk through the quiet streets of the old town, which has preserved its former medieval layout to this day. You can also look at the church. St. Mary Magdalene, which was built in the 14th century. Inside, beautiful Baroque altars have been preserved, including unique paintings and confessionals, which were moved here from the now-defunct monastery in Łąkach Bratiańskich.
