The castle of the Teutonic Knights was between the walls and the bend in the river Drwęca. After transfer to the seat of mayor Brati castle served as a water mill, which was then destroyed in the seventeenth century. The walls surrounding the city were 21 rectangular towers, three round towers, one square tower in the southern corner of the 3 towers and a gate Brodnica, Lubawska and Bratiańska. Walls surrounded with double moat embankment. Lubawska from the gate by a moat running bridge to a further gate between the two round towers (barbakan) in the direction of Bratia Lubawy and extending during the suburb. Brodnicka trip through the gate leading into the old castle, how divided the road to the south by the River Drwęca and westbound passing through another gate (old castle). The walls were destroyed in the seventeenth century during the Northern War, most of the damage done in the nineteenth century, when some of them served for the construction of the street Okólna. Today, the walls remained fragmented in several points in the city, including at church, where it can be seen the tower base Lupine with a part of the gothic walls and a rectangular tower.
