Description

National Park "Ujście Warty" was established in 2001 and covers an area of 8074 ha.

It is located at the western Polish border, in the part of Toruń-Eberswald Pradolina, called the Gorzów Basin.

Flat, extensive areas of the Park are located within the low Warta River terrace. The Warta River flowing through the middle of the Park forms a natural border between the two areas: the North Polder and the flood plain.

The flood plain is a semi-natural area, where water level variations reach up to 4 m per year, reaching the highest values in the spring months: March-April. The Northern Polder is separated from the direct impact of the Warta River on the flood bank built parallel to the river bed. Thus, the water level is much lower there than on the left bank of the Wart and relatively stable.

The current landscape of the Park is a mosaic of meadows, pastures, sedges and reed beds. The currently existing plant communities are typical for agricultural valleys of large lowland rivers. The original character of vegetation is established by willow thickets, secondary schools formed at the Warta riverbed, and also single, impressive willows and elms.

Over 279 species of birds have been observed in the "Ujście Warty" National Park, of which more than 170 species have been found. A dozen or so of them are in the Polish Red Book of Animals, for example, a dandelion, a hawk, a teal, a small seagull, a great buckling.

Many of the birds living in the Park were considered "special care species" according to the so-called Birds Directive - one of the two documents on which the European network of protected areas NATURA 2000 is based. Out of 190 species of birds listed in the Directive, 78 were found in the Park. These are both breeding birds in the area, eg bittern, night heron, corncrake, sprinkler , black tern, white-fronted tern, aquatic warbler; as the golden plover, harrier, or wintering staying here during the migration period: a Whooper Swan, a black-headed Swan.

Meadows of the "Ujście Warty" National Park are a significant place on the map of Europe for birds - not only in the breeding season, but also in other periods: during the feathers, during migration. Numerous seedlings stay here, such as barley, dark waders, battalions. In the autumn, the meadows near Warta include the geese, which are usually 60-80 thousand. (and up to 200,000). Arctic geese dominate in arctic geese (bird recognized as the symbol of the Park, located in the logo). The park is also an important wintering place for many species, eg swans and mute swans, and white-tailed eagles.

Such an unbelievably large amount and diversity of birds do not meet in too many corners of our country. Sometimes, in one day, 250,000 were recorded here. birds. No wonder that the Warta River flood waters are protected under the Ramsar Convention.
