Description
Everyone who was in the chapel will admit that it makes a huge impression, although it may be a bit scary.
The Skull Chapel is a tomb of the victims of Silesian wars from 1740-1742 and 1744-1745, as well as infectious diseases from the 18th century. The walls and ceiling of the chapel are lined with 3 thousand bones and skulls, and nearly 30,000 remains are also under the floor.
The chapel in Czermna was established in the second half of the 18th century and was built by priest Wacław Tomaszek. Collecting, disinfecting and preparing bones and skulls for their arrangement lasted for 8 years.
Although the trip to the chapel may be associated with a place where a shudder passes on the back, this is an important place, forcing visitors to reflect on human existence. On the night of 14 August 15, every year, a mass is celebrated in the chapel for all those who have died as a result of illness or an unfortunate accident.
