Description
In 2015, the Theater celebrated its 250th Jubilee. In its turbulent history from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century, the Theater was the center of the survival of national culture. He burned many times and was rebuilt continously. Each time, he regained the position of one of the most important scenes in Poland.
The ensemble of over 80 people performs on three stages: in the Bogusławski room, on the stage at Wierzbowa im. Jerzy Grzegorzewski and Studio stage.
The repertoire includes nearly thirty performances based on Polish and world drama. The performances also include stage adaptations of literature, musical performances and children's shows.
Currently, the director of the National Theater is Krzysztof Torończyk, artistic director - Jan Englert. Under their direction, the National Theater has become a meeting place for various theatrical aesthetes and outstanding artists of many generations.
The National Theater resides in its historic seat at Teatralny Square, in the right wing of a historic building designed by Antonio Corazzi. In the main building there are costume workshops, rehearsal rooms and, above all, the largest stage of the Theater - Bogusławski's hall.
In the new building at ul. Wierzbowa housed the remaining two scenes of the National Theater: the scene at Wierzbowa im. Jerzy Grzegorzewski and Studio scene.
