Description
The museum is located on the Ostrów Tumski in Poznań - the most important island of Polish history surrounded by two rivers Warta and Cybina, where Mieszko I built the most powerful stronghold of early Polish Piast (X century).
The Museum's seat is - the former Lubrański Academy - the oldest (1518) university in Poznań, and also a school, the earliest in Poland to educate students in the spirit of Renaissance humanism.
In this museum you can see:
- the richest collection of Wielkopolska Gothic art (1320 - 1520),
- the oldest preserved turret monstrance in Poland (around 1400) - a gift of King Władysław Jagiełło for the Sanctuary of Corpus Christi in Poznań,
- the oldest relic brought to Poland around 968 by the first Polish bishop Jordan - Sword of Saint. Peter,
- the most expensive goblet - brass, set with precious stones, funded by Bishop Wojciech Tolibowski for the Poznań cathedral (1663),
- the most terrible liturgical garment - a mourning chasuble with silver skulls embroidered with thread, coming from the Bernardine church
Most, however, will surprise visitors filled with furniture, dishes, knick-knacks and unusual personal souvenirs - the donors' salon.
