Description

The Toruń Living Gingerbread Museum is the first interactive facility of this type in Europe.

The Toruń Living Gingerbread Museum is the first interactive facility of this type in Europe. It has existed since 2006 and is located in the very center of the city - at 9 Rabianska Street - 199 steps from the Copernicus Monument. The museum is open every day from 10 to 18.

Crossing the gates of the museum guarantees two "trips in time":

- The first floor magically takes guests to the Middle Ages, where - under the supervision of Master Piernikarska and the learned Witch Spice - they get to know all the rituals associated with baking gingerbread. They prepare the dough by hand, and later, using wooden molds, bake Toruń specialties from it.

- The second floor of the Museum presents a manufactory from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which is managed by the Rabianski siblings. Guests will see there, among others original German machines used to bake gingerbread, antique stove, a collection of wax forms, as well as willing will be able to decorate gingerbread with icing, taking part in workshops decorating the artist's painting.

We invite all who want to know the tradition of baking a Torun gingerbread, the history of the city, medieval culture and language in an unusual atmosphere and with humor! For work, they chase everyone without exception, whether small or large. Getting to know the history and traditions in our Museum is a joy for visitors of all ages, even the least mature.

Our Museum makes every effort to be a place accessible and friendly to everyone - we are prepared for the reception of disabled people: there is the possibility of taking part in the show with audio description, we have a stairlift for people in wheelchairs and adapted toilets.

The museum was established in April 2006. It was established by Elżbieta and Andrzej Olszewski. In the first year of operation, the Museum visited 34 thousand. guests, in 2014 almost 107 thousand. and in 2015 - of which we are proud - over 115 thousand.

In 2014, the Museum expanded to include a new floor, where we have decorated a gingerbread house from the early twentieth century and we carry out, among others Gingerbread decorations.

We have always "gingerbread" on street Rabianska 9 in the historic granary from 1863. We do not plan any removals.
