Description

The City Museum in Nowa Sól is located at the intersection of ulica Muzealna and Gimnazjalna.

The museum facility in Nowa Sól was organized by social forces, and the main manager - Aleksander Fudalej and his wife, Antonina - played the main role among the people involved in the organization of the museum. From February 1946, a museum and a city library were organized in parallel. Social activists helping in the works came together this autumn in the Society of Friends of the Museum, which in 1958 received legal personality. Until its dissolution in 1992, the president of TPM was Józef Pukajło - a journalist and lawyer, always involved in innumerable urban social campaigns.

The collections for the museum in Nowy Sącz were collected with great enthusiasm and from all available sources: from old museums in Nowa Sól, Bytom Odrzańskie, Kożuchów, penetration of Kożuchów, Głogów, Żary, Żagańskie and Lubin counties, transfers from the Liquidation Office, as well as numerous gifts from private persons and remittances of various institutions.

The museum in Nowa Sól, the first post-war exhibition, was made available to visitors on May 3, 1947, in the previous seat, at the then Rooswelta Street (now W. Witosa). In October 1948, after the adaptive renovation, the museum received a building at the corner of Świerczewskiego Street and Hanka Rawicka Street (nowadays Museum and Gymnasium), which remained its habit to the present.

In the years 1946-1949, the institution functioned on the basis of social forces, enjoying the lively, friendly support of the local society. Funds necessary to run the business came from the proceeds from organized games, theater performances, lotteries organized by the Society of Friends of the Museum

Formal nationalization of the museum took place in December 1949, when by virtue of the resolution of the State Council the Ministry of Culture and Art took over the existing museum facilities "under its management and use, along with the entire property", and the Nowy Sól Museum was administrated to the poviat authorities. Formally, this was confirmed by the Presidium of the Poviat National Council (in Kożuchów with headquarters in Nowa Sól) from December 15, 1949. The character of the poviat office remained in place until 1975, when, as a result of another administrative reform, poviat was liquidated, and the museum was included in the structure of urban cultural institutions

Substantial care of the Nowosol museum from 1946 was exercised by the Wrocław Silesian Museum (today's National Museum), although this matter was formally settled only in January 1951, when it was appointed a regional museum for state museums in Wroclaw and Opole Provinces.

In connection with the change of the administrative division of the country (in June 1950, the Zielona Góra voivodship was established, and on April 11, 1953 Nowa Sól was granted poviat status), since 1952 the museum has been transferred under substantive supervision of the National Museum in Poznań as a territorially appropriate museum the District.

On January 1, 1958, by a resolution of the Council of Ministers on the further extension of the competence of the national councils, a Zielona Góra museum district was created, encompassing the museums in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Międzyrzecz, Nowa Sól and Zielona Góra. Substantive supervision over the Nowy Sól facility covered the Museum of the Lubusz Region in Zielona Góra and held it continuously as a district museum until 1990.

In 1990, as a result of changes in the political system, the previous structures of the museology organization ceased to function. The December 1990 Act abolishing the Cultural Development Fund, through which museums have been financed so far, turned out to be a deadly effect. The Act divided the museums into subordinate governmental administration, which were still financed from the state budget through provincial offices and museums, which were transferred to conduct and finance local governments, in the case of Nowa Sól - the city budget.

Very soon, there were voices about the need to reduce expenditure on the maintenance of municipal cultural institutions, and preferably their complete liquidation. The fact that the Municipal Museum was not liquidated during the 90s of the XXth century can be regarded as an unquestionable success. And although in 1998, the idea of allocating the museum's headquarters to the Civil Registry Office was pushed, thanks to the kind support of many people, the idea was abandoned.

On permanent exhibitions, visitors can view:

- Militaria - shows the evolution of weapons and uniforms from the Middle Ages to the end of the 20th century.
- Bourgeois interiors.
- The nature of the Odra valley.
- Nowa Sól - the rise of the city.
