Description

The Ełk Narrow Gauge Railway is the only such active queue in the region of Warmia and Mazury.

It was built in 1912-1918 and for a long time had a very important economic role - it brought people and goods to and from Ełk.

The military aspect was not without significance on the eve of the outbreak of World War I - the railway traveled to the very border with Russia. The railway ran along the Ełk-Turowo route (about 38 km) with a branch from Lasków Małe to Zawad (about 10 km). During the war, in 1943, around 44,000 tons of goods, mainly root crops from neighboring farms, were transported via the Ełk Kolej Kolej.

In 1951 the track width was changed from 1000 to 750 mm. In 1991, this railway was entered into the list of monuments. Currently, only tourist depots run by Lyd 1 diesel locomotives are already running. Trains run on the Ełk-Sypitki-Ełk route from May to September and enjoy enormous popularity. After about 45 minutes of driving, we reach Sypitek, where we have a bonfire with sausages and the opportunity to buy local specialties (cakes, dumplings, kartacze and many more).

In Sypitki next to the school there is a playground for children. The picturesque River Lega flows right next to it. The Ełk Narrow Gauge Railway organizes many interesting events with a view to children and entire families, including Railway and bicycle trips.
