Establishment of the Center was possible thanks to funding from the European Union under the Lubuskie Regional Operational Program for the years 2007-2013 and the Operational Program Cross-Border Cooperation for Poland-Saxony 2007-2013. The patron of the Kepler Science Center is Johannes Kepler - a German scholar, mathematician, astronomer and astrologer, living at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. Between 1628 and 30, Kepler lived and worked in nearby Żagań.

The Kepler Science Center consists of two centers: the Nature Center (opened on 8/09/2015) and the Planetarium of Venus (opened on 22/10/2015).

The planetarium Venus is located in the building of the former Venus cinema, hence its name. It consists of: Optical Laboratory "Cave of Light" with stands allowing to learn different optical phenomena, astronomical exhibition "Solar System", including a multimedia projection system on a spherical screen (sphere), positions devoted to the planets of the solar system and the moon and meteorites, and also to the famous astronomer - Johannes Kepler.

The planetarium organizes a number of initiatives that promote physics and astronomy. The absolute hit of the Planetarium is a huge and unique 10-meter dome dome, on which world sky shows and film screenings from various fields of science and art take place. The planetarium organizes meetings with the astronomer in the form of a lecture about the Universe, and also participates in lectures popularizing the subject of astronomy.
