Description

Parish church with the neighbourhood – neo-Gothic Transfiguration of Our Lord Church was built in 1896-1900.

Wooden belfry from 1885. The neo-Gothic main gate leading to the area of the former church cemetery. The presbytery from 1901.

Parish in Kamienczyk was established in the 13th century. Documents confirm existence of a first church as early as 1240. Beginning of the present-day church dates on 1896 when father R. Filowski consecrated a foundation stone of the new object. An Architect from Warsaw Jozef Pius Dziekonski was the author of a project of the church. The church was built thanks to father Ludwik Budziszewski and it was consecrated by archbishop Wincenty Popiel in 1903.

This is one nave church with four altars. In the main altar there is a figure of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Other alters of: Czestochowa Holy Virgin, St. Anthony and Lord’s Agony. The tabernacle is the oldest monument inside which is from historical rococo alter. During the Second World War the building was damaged: the roof, gallery and organ, stained-glass windows went on fire. It was gradually rebuilt in 1952-1966.

Historical wooden belfry covered by tinplate dated back to 1885. It was used as a contemporary chapel during construction the church at the beginning of the 20th century. There are three parish bells – Anthony, Kazimierz, Mary founded by Kazimierz Oleski in 1967.

Parish cemetery with neo-Gothic gate. Archives and the practise of burring the deceased around the church confirm existence of the former cemetery. It was strictly bound with the history of the parish, most probably the cemetery was established at the time foundation of the town in around 1471.
The brick presbytery was erected in 1901. The object by its style refers to neo-Gothic architecture corresponding with the neighbouring church. Shape and size of the building have remained in unchanged form since it was built. The neo-Gothic style of the elevation and its division have been preserved despite of bricking up part of the openings. On the brick elevation there is plastered architectonic detail.

The object is listed in the register of monuments.
