Description
The unique exhibition at the General Ryszard Kukliński Museum commemorates the covert activities of “NATO’s first Polish officer”. The collection includes Cold War documents such as the Coastal Front Offensive Operation Plan, as well as photographs and other Kukliński memorabilia collected by the museum’s founder and first curator, the late Professor Józef Szaniawski. The museum is located in the heart of Warsaw’s Old Town near St. John’s Cathedral. In 2018 – in the light of its increasing popularity and the growing stature of its visitors – the museum underwent a complete modernisation and expansion.
Thanks to the wide use of multimedia, it has been possible to present an animation of the Soviet Union’s aggressive plans for World War III and its nuclear consequences, and to display hitherto unpublished materials relating to Kukliński. Separate exhibits are dedicated to the historic roles of Pope John Paul II and US President Ronald Reagan in the collapse of communism. A timeline has been created, documenting the role of Professor Józef Szaniawski, the last political prisoner of communist Poland.
Virtual reality technology is used in a specially designated area, where visitors wearing VR goggles can play the part of ‘Jack Strong’. This state-of-the-art technology appears in only a few other places in Poland.
Entry is free of charge.
