Description

Museum House "Gazeta Olsztyńska" exists since 1992.

The building is a reconstructed building, in which in 1920-1939, there was an editorial office and a printing house, unusually for the Polish history of the region, the only Polish newspaper in Warmia, published since 1886, "Gazeta Olsztyńska". The museum has a regional character. The collections collected in it as well as exhibitions are related mainly to the history of Warmia and Olsztyn, as well as the history of printing.

The museum has almost eight thousand objects in its collections. One of the most valuable are souvenirs related to the owners of the Gazeta Olsztyńska publishing house - the Pieniężni family, as well as the magazine itself. These are family photos, a watch engraved with Seweryn Pieniężny's dedication (1890-1940), fonts from the printing house and unique copies of "Gazeta Olsztyńska", including the only issue of the newspaper from 1915 preserved in the original.

Interesting and valuable are also objects related to the history of Warmia: the chronicle of the church in Bartołty Wielkie (1883-1901), the statute of the Society for Abstinence from the Burned Drinks in the Dyeryzya Warmiyski (1852), the People's Society Act (1919), postcards with correspondence from the 1920 plebiscite . a stamp of the Union of Poles in Germany.

The diary of a forced laborer working in East Prussia during the Second World War is extremely valuable. Photo, document and memorabilia complexes of Maria Zientar-Malewska (1894-1984) - poet, writer, and activist in Warmia are of great cognitive value; Bronisław Chabowski (1892-1942) - teacher of Polish schools in Warmia; Alojzym Śliwa (1881-1969) - Polish activist, poet and writer, and prof. Witold Niewiadomski (1911-2005) - a scientist working in the Olsztyn agricultural school since the 1950s.

A comprehensive and interesting collection is also documenting the events and transformations of the 1980s: the activities of the opposition (leaflets, stamps, posters and posters, "second circulation" publications), NSZZ "Solidarność" (strike in OZGraf.), Elections '89 and later political changes.

The collections are complemented, mainly at the beginning and first half of the 20th century, by machinery, equipment and utensils constituting printing equipment, among others: linotype, metal stereotype foundry machine, hand proofing press, stamping press, calender, book shelves, printing plates and equipment Bookbinders: wire stitching machines, guillotine, perforation, shears and bookbinding.
