It was established on January 1, 2000, however, since 1956, the Nature Department of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria functioned, and the collection of natural collections began in 1951. The beginning of the collection was taken over by German collections: 38 specimens of animals - mostly damaged , 12 chests with 284 geological exhibits and a well-preserved herbarist Hans Steffen, numbering approximately 460 sheets.

During the next years of activity, the collection quickly expanded. There were organized temporary exhibitions of great interest, mostly outside of Olsztyn. Arriving large-size exhibits (eg dermoplast forms of animals, including such mammals as bison, wild boar, wolf) required appropriate warehouses, which were not available in the previous headquarters of the Department - in the Museum of Warmia and Mazury.

Unfortunately, it was also not possible to organize a permanent nature exhibition, hence efforts to create a separate Nature Museum began quite early.
It was not until 1982 that the Department of Nature received two buildings from the city authorities: an eclectic palace from the end of the 19th century (in a very bad technical condition and with tenants) and a former coach house, which in 1994 was rebuilt and renovated - now they are located in museum magazines, a library, one educational set and workshops.

A dozen years later - in 1999 - the restaurant was visited by the palace, intended for the help of nature. These investments are made in connection with the use of a mortgage loan, with the proviso that: "Hallandki model of conservation of monuments in Olsztyn."
