The Silesian Museum is a showcase of Katowice and the whole region, it is a must which must be visited while in Upper Silesia.

In its activities, the institution is inspired by the heritage of the region, its intellectual and artistic achievements and the rich tradition of multiculturalism related to, among others with the huge importance of the industry in Silesia. Founded in 1929, the Silesian Museum gained in 2015 a new, unique because of its architecture and location. The former coal mine was turned into a unique "cultural mine", an example of bold modern architecture, ranked among the ten best buildings in Europe in the Mies van den Rohe competition in 2015.

In the center of the capital of Upper Silesia, at a depth of 14 meters underground, you can see rich and diverse collections of old and contemporary Polish art, represented by such illustrious artists as: Jacek Malczewski, Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, Olga Boznańska, Tadeusz Kantor, Zdzisław Beksiński, Magdalena Abakanowicz and many others. In the Museum, you can also visit the Silesian sacred art gallery, the only non-professional art gallery in Poland, arousing great emotions and interest in the exhibition Light of History.

Upper Silesia over the centuries ", a unique collection of theater and film scenography on a national scale, as well as a modern educational space" On the trail of Tomek "intended for multigenerational sightseeing - by children with adults. The landmark lookout tower - the former "Warsaw II" lift shaft "Katowice" - invites you to this unique place, visible from a distance and towering above the surroundings. From the terrace located at a height of 40 meters, there is a view of the Culture Zone and the city of Katowice.

Information useful for Museum guests:

- At the headquarters in the Culture Zone, you can use gastronomic offer and buy interesting publications and souvenirs in the museum store. You can also visit the library with a reading room, there is also an educational corner for children.

- The Drogowa Trasa Średnicowa Road runs alongside the Silesian Museum. There is a spacious above-ground car park in the area of the Culture Zone (between the Silesian Museum and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra). An underground car park is also available for use, accessible from ul. T. Dobrowolski (extension of J. Duda-Gracz street).

- At the Museum headquarters at ul. Dobrowolski has many facilities to help people with disabilities (movement, sight and hearing).
