Throughout the year it performs exhibition and educational functions as well as services related to tourist traffic.

The museum has a permanent exhibition presenting the history of the landscape, the depths of lakes, rivers, peat bogs and terrestrial ecosystems of the Wigry National Park, human activity and the history and achievements of the former Hydrobiological Station on Wigry. The museum houses a laboratory room for educational classes and a projection room - a place for the presentation of films, slideshows, seminars and workshops.

Part of the museum is intended for periodic exhibitions.

The museum also has a boat with a glass bottom for viewing the underwater world of Lake Wigry.
