The National Museum in Krakow has wonderful collections of works of Polish, European and world art, a large collection of craft and many other collections

The National Museum in Krakow is the oldest (founded in 1879) called "National" and the largest in terms of the number of collections it looks after, this type of institution in Poland in terms of the number of buildings (17), branches (10), research departments (21) and facilities (approx. 800,000).

The Main Building is a representative seat of the National Museum in Krakow, located at the mouth of Błonia. From May 2017, you can see the most valuable painting in Polish collections - "Lady with an Ermine" painted in 1490 by Leonardo da Vinci. This is one of the most beautiful portraits in the world, depicting Cecilia Gallerani, 17-year-old beloved of the Milan Prince Ludovic Sforza. The painting is displayed in a separate room, and before we reach it, we can see the curiosities of the life of Leonardo da Vinci and his models, watch a movie about masterpieces, and even take a souvenir selfie.

The main exhibition halls on the ground floor and first floor are hosted by temporary exhibitions. In the Main Building of the National Museum there are also permanent exhibitions. The gallery "Arms and Color in Poland" presents old militaria from the period of nearly a thousand years, beginning with early arms from the turn of the 10th and 11th century. Also collected here are memorabilia of Polish leaders: Suksza Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Star of the Order of Virtuti Militari of Prince Józef Poniatowski or uniform jacket of Józef Piłsudski. "Artistic Crafts Gallery" in stylishly arranged interiors shows applied art, furniture, ceramics, glasses, clothing and fabrics from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century.

However, the first headquarters of the MNK was the Sukiennice - belonging to the most recognizable historic buildings in Poland - until now the Gallery of Polish Art of the nineteenth century (Rynek Główny 3). The remaining Branches are: European Culture Center EUROPEUM in the 17th century Granary, Kamienica Szołayskich them. Feliks Jasieński, the Palace of Bishop Erazm Ciołek, Muzeum im. Emeryka Hutten-Czapskiego with Józef Czapski's Pavilion, biographical museums - Jan Matejko's House and Józef Mehoffer's House and Karol Szymanowski's Museum in the Villa "Atma" in Zakopane.
