Description
The intellectual background of the Laboratory is a thriving group of volunteers consisting of employees and students of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute of Geology. The aim of the Laboratory (commonly known as the Museum of the Earth) is to provide the collection visitors with over 1500 specimens of rocks, minerals and fossils, mainly from Poland.
The collection is constantly updated and enriched with specimens from around the world. Undoubtedly, the largest attraction of the Museum are the exhibits of Morasko meteorite fragments gathered here, with the largest in Europe and the fourth largest in Europe, a specimen weighing 262 kg. Since 2012, the Lapidary has been a part of the Museum, presenting four thematic sections: stone in nature, stone in architecture and sculpture, stone in road construction and utility stone.
The most numerous museum is visited by children and schoolchildren. And mainly with a view to this age group, apart from sightseeing, the Museum offers lessons and workshops, as well as social education campaigns in the field of rock and mineral recognition, Polish geological history, fossils in the monuments of Poznan, and the history of meteorites. We invite you to visit our website muzeumziemi.amu.edu.pl.
