Description

One of the few places in the world where tourists can admire the relics of nineteenth-century mass culture is Panorama Racławicka in Wrocław.

The museum was founded in Lviv in 1893, and since 1980 it has been located in Wrocław. The branch of the National Museum in Wrocław exposes a cyclical picture "Battle of Racławice" which was painted in 1893-1894 by a team of painters led by Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak. They were mainly interested in commemorating the national traditions on the hundredth anniversary of the Kościuszko Insurrection, as well as the victorious battle fought on April 4, 1794, at Racławice.

Panorama Racławicka presents an artistic vision of the battle of Racławice. It shows the most important, according to the creators, moments of battle. So in the picture there are scenes that took place at different times. Still, on the canvas there are also such scenes that did not take place during the battle.

Thanks to the efforts of the Polish authorities, after the Second World War, some of the Lviv artworks were recovered from the Soviet Union. The decision to issue Panorama in Wrocław was made at the end of 1980. The work, carried out by 25 conservators, lasted for half a decade. The opening of the exhibition took place on June 14, 1985.

Since the opening of the exhibition, Panorama Racławicka has been open constantly. Only from time to time the exhibition is closed for a short time so that maintenance work can be carried out.
