Description
Contrary to popular opinion, the building was not created as a residential property. The erection of the spectacular palace was aimed at manifesting the company's wealth. The period of prosperity of the family company was interrupted by the First World War and its economic consequences, as well as the erroneous policy of the company's management. Most of the family left Łódź in the interwar period. Until 1975 - when the Museum of the City of Lodz was established and the palace became its seat - there were various offices in it.
Today in the Museum you can see:
- former living and representative rooms, including two full luxury rooms: Dining and Mirror, bedroom, cooking room and lounges;
- a series of exhibitions dedicated to the city's outstanding residents, Fri. "Pantheon of the Great Lodzers" introducing the following profiles: Jan Karski, Marek Edelman and Alina Margolis, Władysław Stanisław Reymont, Julian Tuwim, Karl Dedecius, Aleksander Tansman, Artur Rubinstein;
- painting of Jewish artists from the collection of David Malek;
- temporary exhibitions presenting the history, culture and art of Łódź;
- a model of old Łódź, in which you can see in miniature the layout of the city from before World War II;
- a walking garden.
The Museum of the City of Lodz also carries out a rich educational program (classes for children, teenagers, adults and seniors, both open and closed groups), and also rents palace spaces serving as a unique place for congresses, conferences, meetings, photo sessions, film openings or closed events.
The Museum's offer is available to people with various disabilities.
